Julianne Moore Helps Raise Over $140,000 For The Children’s Health Fund
While the Hamptons may be at their worst with summer traffic and meltdowns at delis because egg white omelets are improperly prepared, they are at their very best when it comes to fundraising for important causes. Actress Julianne Moore hosted Sunset Cocktails on Mill Pond on Saturday Aug. 9th to benefit Children’s Health Fund at the beautiful home of Ovation Travel’s Paul and Lisa Metselaar (I was seriously coveting their rose garden.) The event raised over $140,000 for Children’s Health Fund, the non-profit begun by musician Paul Simon and Dr. Irwin Redlener.
Colby Kelly Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Children’s Health Fund commented, “We combine providing medical care with advocating for children in need. We have a fleet of these 50 mobile medical clinics. We visit schools and community centers on a regular schedule in 300 locations across the country,” Of the Hamptons welcome she said, “It’s fantastic to be here – we couldn’t do this without the generosity of the people who’ve come out tonight. Julianne Moore has also been an important advocate for us for five years.”
Julianne Moore said, “I’m so happy to be here tonight with my beautiful 12-year-old date Liv Freunlick. She really wanted to see the mobile unit and said ‘Wow mom they have rooms for tiny kids, medium kids and big kids.’ We both think it’s an incredible accomplishment what the Children’s Health Fund has done.” Moore collaborated with designer Valentina Kova on the outfit she was wearing. (Her daughter was also wearing Valentina Kova.) She said with a smile at the live auction, “The first lot is literally the clothes off my back. Valentina Kova has generously offered to donate this outfit – I really just picked the colors. She’s also donating a portion of proceeds of her 2015 collection to the Children’s Health Fund.”
Host Paul Metselaar welcomed guests and stated, “It’s not often that we have a big blue bus parked in our driveway. We are very lucky as a family that we never had to worry about health care when my girls were growing up. There are hundreds of thousands of kids that don’t have those means. Luckily Children’s Health Fund has a fleet of these amazing life savers that started in the Bronx 25 years ago.”
Senator Chuck Schumer commented on the organization’s importance, “One of the problems in America is mobility. When poor kids don’t’ have health care and have ailments they can’t succeed. Irwin explained this to me in the 80’s. You can’t learn when you don’t feel well – even simple maladies. By supporting the Children’s Health Fund you’re helping keep the American dream shining brightly for future generations.”
He also thanked Julianne Moore, “I love New York. Every great person who is a progressive thoughtful person ends up in New York and she did. They have great professional success and their desire to help this country burns bright in their hearts.”
