Hamptons Fourth Of July Weekend 2014
I am all about a grilled hot dog but there are plenty of things to put in your Hamptons Fourth of July bun. Here are some of the best Hamptons Fourth of July weekend activities. Remember that this is just an introduction and many of these events are ongoing throughout the summer.
FOOD
And hot off the presses your HipHamptons scoop is that The Back Page behind Page Restaurant in Sag Harbor (entrance on Division Street between Murf’s Bar and the Police Station – love it) has just opened for breakfast, lunch, dinner, smoothies and late night until 2am with fresh local healthy food and drink and also has a full bar. This could be your take out or eat in saving grace this weekend.
MUSIC
Friday July 4th 6pm – Mambo Loco – Parrish Art Museum
In Water Mill the Parrish hosts their special Friday night live music series with alfresco performances on the covered terrace catered by Art of Eating. Get your Latin and salsa groove on with Mambo Loco and samba through the art galleries as well.
Friday July 4th, Saturday July 5th – 7:30pm Perlman Music Program Concerts
At the famed summer music academy in Shelter Island the public is invited to share in the accomplishments of the new virtuosos. On Friday night you can hear the Annual Faculty Concert and on Saturday night works in progress from the students.
Saturday July 6th – 6pm to 8pm – Nancy Atlas Project at Gosman’s Dockside Stage
The unsinkable Nancy Atlas and her band are always a treat and doubly so when you head to Montauk and bring your lawn chair, dog, children or significant others that behave like children and rock out. Food and beverage are available for purchase.
Sunday July 6th – 8pm The Commodores at West Hampton Beach Performing Arts Center
Can you say “Brick House” or “Easy” or “Three Times A Lady.” Doesn’t get better than that.
THEATER
“Travesties” at Bay Street Theatre – through July 20th
The Tony award winning comedy from Tom Stoppard features song and dance, strip teases, pie fights and brilliant word play. The Bay Street Theatre on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor has a host of plays, comedy nights and other special programming throughout the summer.
Saturday July 5th – 7pm Martin Short at Guild Hall
The comedian and Tony and Emmy award winning actor Martin Short performs a special variety show with skits, characters, song, dance and comedy.
GARDENS

LongHouse Reserve
LongHouse Reserve – East Hampton
The 16 bucolic acres of gardens, sculpture, and strolling paths is the best way to shed worldly cares, traffic woes, and houseguests. At 8am on Saturday mornings they conduct a guided meditation with sound in the open garden. At 2pm on Saturday the gardens open to the general public. And on Monday July 7th at 6pm is their very special Twilight Tour which is limited in space so reserve early.
FARMERS MARKET
Held on Bay Street by the Breakwater Yacht club, the Sag Harbor Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9am – 1pm. Not only is there the best local produce but cheese, baked goods, pickles and I mean seriously friggin good pickles, seafood, honey, jam, vinegars, wine, flowers, coffee and sorbet. Remember to bring cash and your recyclable bag.

LITERATURE
Saturday July 5th 5pm – Alan Furst – Canio’s Books
A true old fashioned, neighborhood book store, Canio’s, on Main Street in Sag Harbor is the anti-Amazon and hosts readings from authors and poets. The acclaimed and very popular historical spy novel writer Alan Furst will read from his newest book “Midnight In Europe.”
ART
Friday July 4 – Sunday July 6 – 10am to 6pm – Amagansett Fine Arts Festival
Held at the American Legion in Amagansett, the arts festival features independent artists selling paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewelry, and crafts.
Saturday July 5th – 9 to11pm – Art On The Edge 2014 – Vered Gallery
The annual survey of new contemporary art features provocative new painters, sculptors and photographers with a special opening reception for the artists on Saturday night. The exhibit continues through August 4th at the Vered Gallery in East Hampton.
SPORTS
One Ocean Yoga – Channing Daughter Vineyards – Bridgehampton
Om, chardonnay, chardonnay, ohmmmm. What could be more beautiful than vinyasa in the vines overlooking the grapes and sculpture garden of Channing Daughters Vineyard.

Flying Point Surf School
Dying to get on a long board? The surf school offers private lessons as well as a special Surf Camp and Fish Camp. They work from Montauk to Southampton so keep an eye out for the perfect wave.
Paddle Diva
Gina Bradley continues to expand with the huge popularity of Stand Up Paddling for beginners to experts with regularly scheduled classes. Available for group or private excursions.
Montauk Downs State Park Golf
Didn’t get that invitation to play the Maidstone Club? No worries. There is a public Robert Trent Jones designed 18 hole golf course in the picturesque Montauk Downs State Park. There’s also a driving range tennis courts, a swimming pool and a restaurant. Reserve a tee time well in advance.
