I am all about a grilled hot dog but there are plenty of things to put in your Hamptons Fourth of July bun.   Here are some of the best Hamptons Fourth of July weekend activities.  Remember that this is just an introduction and many of these events are ongoing throughout the summer.

The Back Page

And hot off the presses your HipHamptons scoop is that The Back Page behind Page Restaurant in Sag Harbor (entrance on Division Street between Murf’s Bar and the Police Station – love it) has just opened for breakfast, lunch, dinner, smoothies and late night until 2am with fresh local healthy food and drink and also has a full bar.  This could be your take out or eat in saving grace this weekend.

Friday July 4th 6pm – Mambo Loco – Parrish Art Museum

In Water Mill the Parrish hosts their special Friday night live music series with alfresco performances on the covered terrace catered by Art of Eating.  Get your Latin and salsa groove on with Mambo Loco and samba through the art galleries as well.

Friday July 4th, Saturday July 5th – 7:30pm Perlman Music Program Concerts

At the famed summer music academy in Shelter Island the public is invited to share in the accomplishments of the new virtuosos.  On Friday night you can hear the Annual Faculty Concert and on Saturday night works in progress from the students.

nancy atlas

Saturday July 6th – 6pm to 8pm – Nancy Atlas Project at Gosman’s Dockside Stage

The unsinkable Nancy Atlas and her band are always a treat and doubly so when you head to Montauk and bring your lawn chair, dog, children or significant others that behave like children and rock out.   Food and beverage are available for purchase.

Sunday July 6th – 8pm The Commodores at West Hampton Beach Performing Arts Center

Can you say “Brick House” or “Easy” or “Three Times A Lady.”  Doesn’t get better than that.

“Travesties” at Bay Street Theatre – through July 20th

The Tony award winning comedy from Tom Stoppard features song and dance, strip teases, pie fights and brilliant word play.  The Bay Street Theatre on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor has a host of plays, comedy nights and other special programming throughout the summer.

Saturday July 5th – 7pm Martin Short at Guild Hall

The comedian and Tony and Emmy award winning actor Martin Short performs a special variety show with skits, characters, song, dance and comedy.

LongHouse Reserve

LongHouse Reserve

LongHouse Reserve – East Hampton

The 16 bucolic acres of gardens, sculpture, and strolling paths is the best way to shed worldly cares, traffic woes, and houseguests.  At 8am on Saturday mornings they conduct a guided meditation with sound in the open garden.  At 2pm on Saturday the gardens open to the general public.  And on Monday July 7th at 6pm is their very special Twilight Tour which is limited in space so reserve early.

Held on Bay Street by the Breakwater Yacht club, the Sag Harbor Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9am – 1pm.  Not only is there the best local produce but cheese, baked goods, pickles and I mean seriously friggin good pickles, seafood, honey, jam, vinegars, wine, flowers, coffee and sorbet.  Remember to bring cash and your recyclable bag.

Saturday July 5th 5pm – Alan Furst – Canio’s Books

A true old fashioned, neighborhood book store, Canio’s, on Main Street in Sag Harbor is the anti-Amazon and hosts readings from authors and poets.  The acclaimed and very popular historical spy novel writer Alan Furst will read from his newest book “Midnight In Europe.”

Friday July 4 – Sunday July 6 – 10am to 6pm – Amagansett Fine Arts Festival

Held at the American Legion in Amagansett, the arts festival features independent artists selling paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewelry, and crafts.
