Jay McInerney at Watchcase Event

All eyes have been on the Watchcase condominium development in Sag Harbor and getting an invitation to one of their events is a way to act as if you are already one of the lucky owners.

Jay McInerney, noted author and wine authority, hosted a small gathering at Cape Advisors’s Watchcase to do a tasting of rosés and read from his book The Juice.

Jay conducted a blind tasting of four different rosé wines, Provence vs. Long Island. Guests tasted two wines from Long Island and two from Provence that were served in numbered decanters, so guests wouldn’t know which wine they were drinking. After voting on their preferences with a show of hands, Jay revealed each wine then did a short reading from The Juice.

Our group decided number two had a real floral note so figured it to be Provence  and were very enamored of the light and crisp number four (which turned out to the be most expensive, Domaines Ott).  We were correct on number two which was the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Miraval rosé.  As there really are no bad rosés in our book – we also enjoyed the Bedell and Wolffer pink pleasures as well.

Afterwards guests toured Watchcase’s recently completed penthouse model unit. The tall windows encased in brick give amazing views of the harbor and the roof deck with its grass and fire pit is a winner.  The event was organized by Cape Advisors, the developers of Watchcase, in partnership with Thermador.

Watchcase is a former watchcase factory built in 1881 that is being restored by Beyer Blinder Belle, the architects behind the restoration of Grand Central Terminal and the U.S. Capitol, along with acclaimed interior designer Steven Gambrel. Watchcase will be the Hamptons’ first resort-style luxury condominium development.
