The third time is the charm for Bridgehampton Polo where the weather gods cooperated to allow match play on August 4th.  Larry Boland, President of Piaget N.A. the Official Timekeeper of Bridgehampton Polo commented, “Rain or shine, Bridgehampton Polo is a great fit for Piaget…though we prefer sunshine! We’re looking forward to welcoming our clients out this weekend to enjoy the festivities and hopefully, another exciting match.”

It was a heroic effort for both teams in the heat with CIRCA winning 12 to 11 against rival KIG.  It was the first match back for CIRCA team leader Chris Del Gatto after a hand injury cheered on by Veronica Webb.

While Bridgehampton Polo Club partner and star player Nacho Figueras and his team KIG were not victorious on Saturday, his sons performed valiantly on the field during a special 12 Year Olds and Under chukker to give fans a glimpse of the next generation of polo players.

Speaking of the next generation, Sag Harbor’s own Dylan Jenet captivated the crowd with her singing of the National Anthem.  “That was amazing,” she said, “To be out there in the field with the wind blowing – how great.”  The fourteen year old already has a Native American Music Award for Best Pop Artist under her belt.

It was also a thrill for WNYW’s Rosanna Scotto who got to toss out the opening ball.  “It was very exciting,” she said smiling, “Especially with Nacho saying ‘Rosanna throw the ball to me!’”  Her sister Elaina Scotto and niece Julia lent moral support and an additional pitching arm.

Hamptons Magazine Editor Samantha Yanks also enjoyed the day with husband David and daughter Sadie.

Bridgehampton Polo has certainly become a family affair for Gabby Karan de Felice who with husband Gianpaolo sponsor not only with Zen Air but as the Bridgehampton Polo Official Caterer Tutto Il Giorno (order your special picnic basket by Wednesday before the match polo@tuttoilgiorno.com.)  Bridgehampton Polo is the Saturday afternoon destination for the whole family including kids and grandmother Caralina who created my favorite eggplant and mozzarella penne dish.

“I was so excited to reinvent polo,” said Gabby. “I knew with Shamin Abas putting it together and Angela Giannopoulos creating the décor combined with what I could do with the food and the wait staff (all dressed in DKNY) it would be great.  It’s smaller and more elite.  My kids love it — my son hands out the Zen Air fans.  It’s us being together as a family which is what the Hamptons are all about.”  In the heat the Zen Air fans are the new “must have accessory” at Bridgehampton Polo.

The VIP tent at Bridgehampton Polo also hosted a number of arbiters of style including Lady Liliana Cavendish, Nina Griscom, Jason Binn, philanthropist Jean Shafiroff and even Nigel Barker a judge on America’s Next Top Model.  Designer Steven Gambrel who literally wrote the book on chic Hamptons lifestyle, Time and Place, said, “I ride here at the farm and it’s so nice to see the polo in action.  It’s a great interaction with half socializing and half watching the amazing game.”

You have to add a dash of Hollywood into a VIP mix and we got the scoop from TV producer Chris Brancato about the new NBC series Hannibal a prequel to the movie.  Brancato credits the creative genius of Bryan Fuller for the script which attracted amazing talent like Laurence Fishburne, Hugh Dancy, Caroline Dhavernas and Mads Mikkelsen who won Best Actor in Cannes this year and is the perfect incarnation of Hannibal according to Brancato.  Watch for it this fall.

Bridgehampton Polo Luxury Tips Of The Day

We caught up with Robert Shepherd President of Edmiston & Company America, a world leader in mega and super yacht sales, charters, management and new construction.  The company handles mostly 150’ to 250’ sail and motor yachts with bases in Manhattan, Monte Carlo, London, Antibes and Mexico City.  Let’s just say there are no bad business trips in that company.

Shepherd noted, “I have a great client who is a polo player.  There’s a real cross over in yachting and polo as both are the sport of gentlemen.”  About his company’s sponsorship of Bridgehampton Polo he commented, “I get more value out of this than print.  It’s the chance to get out and meet people.  Many of my clients have homes here so it makes for great social marketing.”

The latest and greatest mega yachts now have gyms, spas, plunge pools, cinemas, and even their own helicopter landing pads.  Edmiston & Company managed the construction of the 77 meter M/Y TANGO which won Motor Yacht of the Year at the 2012 World Superyacht Awards.  Okay, no need to be shy, we are definitely angling for a ride.

Jet setters looking for endless summer took note of the Anguilla Tourist Board’s boutique.  If you haven’t been to Anguilla you’re missing amazing beaches, five star cuisine, and super friendly people.  Ania Gray of the ATB also pointed out the appeals of the cays around the island such as Sandy Island where they filmed ABC’s The Bachelor.  While there isn’t polo on the island, there is another famous stick and ball game which draws many visitors – golf.

They held a special raffle to win a three day’s stay at the luxury resort Cap Juluca to benefit the J/P Haitian Relief Organization dedicated to saving lives and bringing sustainable programs to the Haitian people with Coral King presenting the prize to the lucky winner.

Hayley Severns of Anna Trzebinski

The Anna Trzebinski boutique was turning heads.  In her Kenya-based workshop of tribal women Anna uses authentic indigenous designs as inspiration and draws on the rich colors and raw materials of Africa.  Each piece is a unique work of art.  The amazing scarves featured flamingo, ostrich, and guinea fowl feathers with intricate hand beading on not only the scarves but gladiator sandals.  As Hayley Severns said of the brand which has fans such as Naomi Campbell, “It’s created with consciousness.”  That’s a win win for the unique fashionista.

Grey Goose Vodka summer cocktails

There were a few winners off the field as well as guests enjoyed some refreshing summer cocktails.  The Grey Goose® Vodka Hamptons Punch made with Grey Goose® Vodka, fresh white grapefruit juice, basil simple syrup and strawberries looked just as lovely as it tasted.  We are definitely nominating this for our special drink for The Lovely Hour.  The Lovely Hour: Like Happy Hour, Only Prettier.

The Experimental Cocktail Club and Pointy Snout Caviar

The Experimental Cocktail Club amazed us again with a special cocktail perfectly paired with Pointy Snout Caviar, the official caviar of Bridgehampton Polo club.  This week ECC delighted us with the Black Friar composed of gin, falernum, lime, green tea, ginger syrup and soda.

Guests also knew the best way to stay hydrated with the special electrolyte enhanced SmartWater and Zico Coconut Water.

Of course there is nothing like the classic cold glass of rosé from Bertaud Belieu Wine.

Field-side garden areas gave patrons an unparalleled view of all the high goal polo action with VIP tailgating and the Davidoff Cigar Garden where guests enjoyed complimentary cigars presented by the Swiss luxury tobacco company.

The Vendor Village featuring a variety of specialty goods, products and fashions from local merchants, including Michelle Farmer Collaborate, Peyman Umay custom suiting, Duck and Weave, Silas Marder of Marders custom outdoor furniture was enjoyed by all.  Be sure to check out Michelle Farmer Collaborate on Thursdays in Bridgehampton where Jesse Elliot custom creates gorgeous dresses.

And as a nod to the dog days of summer, these Afghans Skyler and Victor managed to look cool.
