You know the moment.  You feel on top of the world and you walk into a party only to see – horrors – someone else in the exact same dress.  For the fabulous female (or male) you want something unique.  The new Michelle Farmer Collaborate which opened on Main Street in Bridgehampton has a collection you won’t find anywhere else with emerging talent from the fashion scene.  This is your best Hamptons boutique destination.

Michelle whose hand designed jewelry adorns many a graceful neck from the Hamptons to Palm Beach, decided to carefully curate a boutique which featured several different designers.  The fashion trend for summer 2012?  “All color, and effortless chic,” says Michelle who is also designing a new resort wear line.  “Especially here in the Hamptons, it’s understated with ease.  You can pair a beautiful flowing silk top over a pair of white jeans then add sandals or heels.”

The one thing her designers have in common is attention to detail and beautiful fabrics from a poncho by Manu’ Cashmere to crisp linen from Pure Lino to flowing Love Shack Fancy silk dresses to bejeweled bathing suits from Anika Brazil.

And if you see something you like but might want it in a different color, or want to change the neck line or sleeve like on one of Lauren Gabrielson’s silk tops — no problem.  The designers can custom create for you.  And before you run to check your VISA limit – it is surprisingly affordable.  Many of the price points are around $250 to $300.

For men, the Old Bull Lee vintage Italian print shorts are perfect paired with a breezy linen shirt or colorful Strong Boalt swim trunks.

Michelle carries the Jennifer Creel sunglasses with cool details like wood or leather accents and colorful beach towels from Coco & Allie.   If your eye catches the sensuous photos on the wall from Eric Striffler, you can buy those too.  The dramatic lighting is from HelenBilt.  Keep an eye out for a new line of shoes to arrive shortly.

Unlike some stuffy stores, Michelle Farmer Collaborate is fun.  Really.  You’re meant to come in and play.  Keep an eye out for trunk shows and special events (we loved the cupcakes and beefcakes – hunky fire fighters – who served at her opening party).

And here is your HipHamptons insider tip – consider this your bridal and bridesmaid store.  For the chic wedding party that wants something sophisticated and unique, Michelle can help you custom create your look.  Her diaphanous white gown practically flew out of the store the first week.
