Fridays at Five: Hamptons Authors Up Close and Personal

Submitted by on July 22, 2009 – 10:40 amNo Comment

Authors Bob Drury and Tom Clavin read at Fridays at Five

One of the Hamptons literary treasures is the Hampton Library Fridays at Five author series in Bridgehampton.  While we adored its outdoor setting on the lawn, the library has been undergoing renovations and the lectures will take place at the Bridgehampton Community Center which is on Rt. 27 at School Street just across from the Candy Kitchen (which has the best home made ice cream in the Hamptons).   Wine and nibblies are served and you get the chance to get an inside glimpse into the creative world of fiction and non-fiction writers.  A bargain at $15 which goes to support the library.  Which has wonderful books.  You remember books don’t you?  It’s how we learned about the world before Twitter.

This Friday, July 24 at 5pm the dynamic duo of Bob Drury and Tom Clavin will present their latest page turner, The Last Stand of Fox Company, a true story of US Marines in combat in the battle for Fox Hill in the Korean War.  Authors also of Halsey’s Typhoon which tells the tale of heroics at sea in World War II, Drury and Clavin viscerally bring these pivotal moments of courage to life, and readers are treated to a dramatic tale with a history lesson as well.

With the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride in town this weekend with many veterans it is also a tribute to the men and women who serve this country to remember them and honor them in print as well as in person.

Coming up at Fridays at Five:

July 31       John Feinstein

August 7    Steven GainesFool's Paradise

August 14  Julie Andrews

August 21  Alec Baldwin
