Hamptons Dog Yoga or “Doga”
With two of the most famous yoga poses named after our canine companions, Downward Dog and the lesser known one I practice often, Passed Out Puppy, it is no wonder that we’d like to include our pets in our yoga practice. Kari Hardendorf will be offering Hamptons Dog Yoga or Doga at Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor on Sunday July12 and Sunday August 9 from 4 – 5pm. In the one hour class where your dog basks in your undivided attention, she will show you massage techniques to aid circulation and digestion and take you and Fido or Fifi through your yoga paces in traditional and modified poses.
Dogs of all size are welcome. “You can do more if your dog is smaller,” Kari tells us, “but we can modify with larger dogs, you just won’t lift them over your head.” In her eight years she’s never had a problem with the dogs not getting along and says about halfway through class they tend to calm down and get into their zen moment.
Kari has appeared on the Martha Stewart show, and no Martha didn’t bring her dogs to give it a try.
HipHamptons.com dog editor at large Natasha will be there to check it out and report back.
The class is $25 and limited to twelve people so pre-registration is essential: firstname.lastname@example.org or 631-725-6424.
We think this idea has legs – keep an eye out for classes where you can bring your camel for Camoga or pidgeon for Poga.
